Lifespan was formed in 1996 when Dr. Warren Sprick led the way to creating a collaboration between Visiting Nurse Services, Good Samaritan Hospice Care, VNS ContinuCare and Amicare in Battle Creek into a single non-profit subsidiary under the auspices of the Battle Creek Health system. Lifespan Home Oxygen and Medical Equipment was also created as part of this new entity. Dr. Sprick’s vision of Lifespan was a multi-disciplinary, integrated team of professionals serving individuals in all phases of illness and recuperation at home. As well as a consolidation of home care services under a single umbrella organization which would allow a physician, patient, hospital discharge planner or family member to make one call to effectively coordinate all necessary home care services.
In 2006 the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence became operational. Offering a home-like setting, pain control and quality end-of-life care, the Hospice residence was created to offer the community a short term, acute management facility for patients needing a few days to a few weeks of care. The Hospice Residence was to serve the community as a Hospice Hospital.
In July 2011 when Battle Creek Health System entered into partnership with Bronson Healthcare and became Bronson Battle Creek, Lifespan became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bronson Healthcare. Today, as Lifespan continues its local operations in home health, hospice, home medical and oxygen services, it is also part of a regional healthcare system working to coordinate care across southwest and south central Michigan.

Lifespan was conceived on the premise that the home environment is both the most healing and cost-effective setting for many types of home care and hospice services to occur. The Lifespan vision incorporates a true continuum of health care where each patient receives the appropriate services at the appropriate time consistent with their condition and prognosis.
The goal of Lifespan is to be the leading, highest quality, cost-effective, consumer responsive home health care, hospice service and home medical supplier in southern and western Michigan. We will strive to improve access to health care and hospice services for all individuals and families. Quality systems will stress a continuous improvement environment and further enhance our capacity to deliver care and services until we achieve maximum outcomes.
To provide optimal care, respecting each patient as an individual.
To affirm our belief that patients heal best at home, and to provide quality medical care for patients in their own homes whenever possible.
To treat each patient as we would a member of our own family.
